Toxteth Tigers

Toxteth Tigers

Created in 1968 by Jimmy Rogers to provide opportunities for young Black people to play Basketball. Emerging into Local Merseyside leagues, Toxteth Tigers made a big impact and are now in the regional and national competitions. In 1991 the club was reconstituted to incorporate its wider aims in its constitution, and also changed its name to 'Toxteth Tigers Basketball Programme' in order to portray positive images of the area of Liverpool.

The club achieved National recognition when it became National Champions in 2000 and out of a squad of fifteen, eight of them were accepted academically in various universities around the country, two of these boys were the first in their families ever to attend university.

How to report racism

A racist incident is defined as: 'Any incident which is perceived to be racist by the victim or any other person'.

True Vision is an initiative by Merseyside Police to give victims of hate crime a voice that will be heard.  Many victims of Hate Crime suffer in silence and are to afraid of reporting Hate Crime because of fear of more attacks or abuse.  True vision aims to increase reporting of hate crimes, especially first time hate crime/incident to the police or other agency indicating an increase. The initiative also aims to reduce victim vulnerability, see a reduction in the number of repeat victims, s hare information with partner agencies and see an increase in the number of quality victim statements leading to the successful prosecutions of hate crime offences.
